Levenhuk 870T is a reliable biological trinocular microscope that may be used for both bright field and dark field observations. It is commonly used in various medical laboratories for clinical research in dermatology, biochemistry, cytology, hematology, and other scientific studies. Due to the trinocular design of the head, this model may be turned into a digital microscope with an addition of an eyepiece digital camera.
The head of the microscope is inclined at 30 degrees and may be rotated 360 degrees around its axis. Four objective lenses on the revolving nosepiece, Köhler illumination method, adjustment of the aperture and field diaphragms make this microscope a perfect tool for serious observations.
The stage (140x155 mm, 5.5x6.1 in) moves along two axes. Focusing the view is achieved by rotating the coarse and fine focus wheels that raise or lower the stage itself, thus bringing the sample closer to or farther away from the objective lens. Both focus systems have smooth movements in 25 mm (1 in) increments for coarse and 0.002 mm (0.00008 in) for fine.
There is a variable brightness 6V 20W halogen lamp installed in the base of the microscope that acts as an illumination source.
The Levenhuk 870T trinocular microscope is fitted with a dark field microscope condenser that may be used once the Abbe condenser is raised to its highest position. A dark field microscope is best suited for studying blood and other biological samples that simply cannot be observed in bright field. Rotate the ring on the illuminator clockwise to switch to dark field observations, rotate it clockwise again to switch back to bright field observations.
About dark field observations
Upon leaving the condenser, most of the light rays that pass through a specimen without changing direction form a hollow cone. Since the objective lens is located within this cone, none of the rays are focused on the lens. Only a few light rays, which are condensed on the cover glass upon passing through a specimen, remain within the cone and may be focused on the lens, thus providing the image. We can only observe the bright parts of the object against a dark background since they have different refractive indices; and when observing large samples all we can see are the bright edges that disperse the light rays.
Caution: Please refer to the specifications table for the correct mains voltage and never attempt to plug a 110V device into 220V outlet and vice versa without using a converter. Remember that mains voltage in the U.S. and Canada is 110V and 220-240V in most European countries.

can I replace the halogen lamp with a LED one? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Unfortunately, it is impossible.
There is a mirror in the kit but I didn't find any information on how to replace illumination bulb with the mirror... Levenhuk Customer Service:
The process of replacing illumination bulb with the mirror goes as follows: 1) Turn the microscope over and and unscrew locking screws at the sides to open the base 2) Unscrew four screws locking the ring, remove the ring and the lens 3) Close the base with the cover and lock it with screws 4) Turn the microscope back to its normal position and install the mirror
What upgrades or accessories are available (LED illumination instead/polariser/phase contrast etc?? Are the objective D.I.N. standard or infinity or other? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Dear Ben, Thank you for your question. Unfortunately we do not produce the mentioned accessories. The objective meets all the required standards. Is there any additional information you might need?
Can I observe opaque objects with this microscope? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Levenhuk 870T Biological Trinocular Microscope does not have an upper illumination source, therefore, you can only observe transparent samples with it.
Hello! I'd like to know whether it is possible to replace the condenser on this microscope? I want to install another condenser (not the Abbe type). Levenhuk Customer Service:
Yes, theoretically, you can replace the condenser, but we don't have condensers suitable for Levenhuk 870T in our product range.
Can I connect this microscope to PC and observe images on the monitor? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Yes, you can connect the Levenhuk 870T model to your computer using one of our digital cameras for microscopes https://www.levenhuk.com/catalogue/digital-cameras/for-microscopes/

Hello! The manual says that achromatic objectives come with this microscope. So why did you write PLAN? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Currently, the Levenhuk 870T model comes with PLAN objectives.
so why then in the manual is it written that achromatic objectives come with it? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Currently Levenhuk 870T Biological Trinocular Microscope comes with PLAN objectives, user manual will be updated soon.
What do PLAN objectives mean?? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Plan objectives feature excellent color rendering and produce less spherical aberrations than achromatic or Semi-Plan lenses and provide flat field of view up to 95% of produced image diameter.
What's the difference between these objective lenses Objective lenses 4x, 10x, 40x, 100x PLAN Objective lenses 4x, 10x, 40x, 100x OIL Levenhuk Customer Service:
100x PLAN - spring-loaded, immersion 100x OIL - immersion

Bought 970T from you. There is no user manual in the kit. The views are highly blurred when observing with 20x eyepieces. My questions - 1. where do I put filters? 2. why there is a mirror in the kit? Levenhuk Customer Service:
You can always find the User Manual on-line on our website on the product page on the References and Downloads tab. Filter should be placed in the filter holder on the diaphragm. A mirror can be used as a light source instead of the lamp.
3. I am also interested in diameter of the third eyepiece Levenhuk Customer Service:
The third eyepiece’s diameter is around 1 inch.
1. is it possible to attach Canon 450D SLR to the third eyepiece of this microscope? 2. what kind of adapter is required for this? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Attaching SLR cameras is not supported by microscope construction. We suggest you use digital cameras designed specifically for this purpose: https://www.levenhuk.com/catalogue/digital-cameras-microscope-all-items/
1. then how to attach digital cameras you suggest to the third eyepiece if its diameter is 1 inch and camera adapters are 0.9-1.2 inches? 2. is a beam of light between binocular and the camera being controlled? Levenhuk Customer Service:
1. Trinocular has standard diameter. Adapters included in the kit are only needed for attaching a camera to the microscopes with another diameter. 2. Yes, a beam of light between binocular and the camera is controlled.
Is it possible to insert illumination source in the third eyepiece to get quality images in reflected light? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Unfortunately, that cannot be done.
PLAN eyepieces is a good thing, but I was asking about objective lenses. The description on the site says: Objective lenses 4x, 10x, 40x, 100x PLAN, and at the same time it is stated in the user manual: DIN achromatic objective lenses. Levenhuk Customer Service:
Included in the standard kit of this model are PLAN objective lenses.
Hi! Do you have a C-mount adapter for attaching a digital camera to this microscope? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Unfortunately we don't have this adapter in our product range.
Thank you, no need to explain anymore, I figured it out myself. Levenhuk Customer Service:
Thank you for your feedback.
Please explain how to use immersion objective correctly. I mean for me it seems that I do everything exactly as it's said in manual: I drip immersion oil on the cover glass and lower objective lens so it touches the oil… but I can't see anything, only white spot. Maybe I need to apply some oil on the condenser as well? Levenhuk Customer Service:
The oil immersion objective (usually 100x or more) is designed for use with a drop of special oil, placed between it and the specimen. First you should focus on the area of specimen that you are going to observe using oil immersion objective. Then carefully place a drop of immersion oil on the cover slip over that area, and lower the oil immersion lens into place.
Hello. Where can I buy oil of these two types - A and B? And which of them magnifies more or what's the difference between them? Thank you. Can a vegetable oil be used? I want to purchase Levenhuk_c800 camera and Levenhuk 870T Biological Trinocular Microscope. I need your guidance. Levenhuk Customer Service:
Unfortunately we don’t have immersion oil in our product range. Type A is a classic immersion oil Used as immersion liquid while working with apochromatic and achromatic objective lenses of microscopes of all types, except fluorescence microscopes, in visible spectrum. Type B is a professional immersion oil Used as immersion liquid while working with apochromatic and achromatic objective lenses of microscopes of all types, except fluorescence microscopes, in visible spectrum. Intended for microscopes with artificial illumination and image viewing system first of all. Compared to the classic immersion oil, immersion oil of B type has lower velocity and higher light transmittance. No, vegetable oil cannot be used. Do you want to process with the order?
Hello, is immersion oil included in the kit? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Yes, immersion oil is included in the kit of the Levenhuk 870T Biological Trinocular Microscope.
