Levenhuk Rainbow 50L Moonstone Microscope is a great gift for anyone interested in biology and science. The instrument allows for observing and studying familiar objects of our surrounding environment under 40x, 80x, 100x, 200x, 400x and even 800x magnification! With this microscope you can find out how plants, animals and humans are structured; take a look at how microscopic organisms, usually hidden from us, live in their own micro-universe; and, of course, conduct a number of exciting experiments. The kit includes everything a novice researcher might need – in the box you will find prepared microscope slides to observe right away as well as tools allowing you to create your own slides.
High magnification power
The microscope comes with three objective lenses providing 40x, 100x, and 400x magnification power. Changing the magnification is very easy – just rotate the revolving nosepiece. The Barlow lens included in the kit doubles the magnification you get with every objective, so the highest power you can obtain out of the box is 800x!
All optical elements are made of high-quality glass of high transparency. In order to enhance light transmission, the lenses are covered with multilayer coating. Such a design allows for producing highly detailed, sharp and clear images.
All microscopes in the Levenhuk Rainbow 50L series are equipped with two LED illumination systems. The lower illumination allows for observations in transmitted light; for example, you can observe microorganisms in a drop of aquarium water or study the cellular structure of an onion peel. The upper illumination makes it possible to work with opaque objects – among other interesting things, you can see the inner structure of different kinds of paper and fabrics. In order to observe semi-transparent samples, both illuminations need to be turned on. A smooth brightness adjustment mechanism makes it easy to set the best level of illumination required for each particular sample.
The microscope comes in a durable and lightweight plastic body. To provide you with the most comfortable observations, the microscope head is inclined at 45° and can be rotated 360° around its axis. That is extremely convenient when working in a group – you don’t have to move the instrument; just turn the head in the desired direction. The microscope can be powered by either an electrical outlet or batteries.
Caution: Please refer to the specifications table for the correct mains voltage and never attempt to plug a 110V device into 220V outlet and vice versa without using a converter. Remember that mains voltage in the U.S. and Canada is 110V and 220-240V in most European countries.
Experiment kit included
The microscope comes with Levenhuk K50 Experiment Kit, which has everything needed to make first observations frustration-free and exciting. You can begin with observing ready-to-use microscope samples included in the kit and then move on to creating your own microscope slides. In the box you will find a set of helpful instruments and a detailed user guide with all required information on microscopes and observations as well as descriptions of the most interesting experiments.
The microscope comes with a convenient plastic case. You can use the case for storing the microscope and keeping it dust-free, and for transporting your instrument without risk of mechanical damage.

Can I observe cell division in this microscope? Levenhuk Customer Service:
For that you will need a laboratory microscope. Consider Levenhuk 850B Biological Binocular Microscope - https://www.levenhuk.com/catalogue/microscopes/levenhuk-850b/.
Where can I find Paramecium caudatum? Or how can I breed them? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Paramecium caudatum usually lives in freshwater contaminated reservoirs. You can simply get some water from a puddle, tint it and use that water for observations.
Can I see at least motionless spermatozoa in this microscope? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Yes, you can see Spermatozoa using Levenhuk Rainbow 50L PLUS Moonstone microscope.
Can I observe spores of bread for example? Levenhuk Customer Service:
You can observe mold spores using Levenhuk Rainbow 50L PLUS Moonstone microscope.
I put a drop of water on the slide, then covered it with a cover slip, but couldn't see anything. Why is that? Levenhuk Customer Service:
You will need to tint the water in order to see the microorganisms in it.
It turns out, I cannot see even small motionless lamblia? Levenhuk Customer Service:
We can't advise how you will see Giardia using Levenhuk Rainbow 50L PLUS Moonstone microscope, because we do not have this particular sample in our product range.
Do I only need a slide with central indentation to make a "hanging drop"? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Yes, you will need a glass slide with a central indentation and a cover slip.
Can I see the division of the Paramecium caudatum in this microscope? Do I necessarily need a slide with the central indentation? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Levenhuk Rainbow 50L PLUS Moonstone microscope will be perfect for observing the protozoa. You can use a simple sample slide.
I am 12 and I have had a fancy for microscopy since 6. Which microscope should I choose? Levenhuk Customer Service:

What can I see in this microscope? Can I attach a display to this microscope? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Using Levenhuk Rainbow 50L PLUS Moonstone microscope you can see protozoa, bugs, spiders, some blood cells, slides with ready-made samples, thin fruit and leaf cuts, etc. We do not have a microscope display in our product range. You can take a look at a Levenhuk D70L monocular microscope: https://www.levenhuk.com/catalogue/microscopes/levenhuk-d70l/. It has a display, but you can also use an eyepiece.
What is the "hanging drop" method used for? Levenhuk Customer Service:
A hanging drop is a microscopy method invented by Koch in order to observe living microbes, their activity, reproduction, germination of spores, reaction to chemical stimuli, immune sera (agglutination, lysis), etc.
In the "Interesting microscope: studying the micro world" book it is said that I need a slide with the central indentation in order to study microorganisms. Levenhuk Customer Service:
It is easier to do the research using a slide glass with central indentation. But you can use simple ones as well.
I have an "Invisible world" book, but I couldn't find any information about it there. Levenhuk Customer Service:
Euglena green is in the Protozoa class. You can observe it using a simple slide.
Do I need to prepare a "hanging drop" method in order to observe the microorganisms such as Euglena the Green? Levenhuk Customer Service:

You don't need to use the "hanging drop" method to observe microorganisms in the Levenhuk Rainbow 50L PLUS microscope. You can simply add some water to the slide.
Excuse me, I meant: do I need to pour the water from the river into the glass and then add few drops of the tint? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Yes, this is right.
You will need to pour the water into the glass and add a few drops of the tint in order to see the Paramecium caudatum Levenhuk Customer Service:
Thank you so much for your Levenhuk Rainbow 50L PLUS Moonstone microscope review.
Do I need to tint the water in order to see the living creatures in a drop of water? Levenhuk Customer Service:

Yes, Levenhuk Rainbow 50L model allows you to examine dust mites, a drop of blood, and organisms in liquids.
Hello! What additional accessories should I buy to this model? Actually I'm choosing between this microscope and Levenhuk 320... The only thing that makes me hesitate is the absence of upper illumination in 320 model - that means I won't be able to observe opaque objects, right? Or a simple table lamp will do the job? Levenhuk Customer Service:
Levenhuk 320 Biological Microscope will give you a much better image. But yes, it doesn't allow for observing opaque samples. Both microscopes can be equipped with a digital camera (https://www.levenhuk.com/catalogue/digital-cameras/for-microscopes/) and an eyepiece (https://www.levenhuk.com/catalogue/accessories/eyepieces-for-microscopes/). more
