Watch magnifier – a specialised magnifying device for fine work. A watchmaker’s or a jeweller’s magnifier must have high magnification and special design. If you work at low light, it is recommended to use a watch magnifier with lighting.

Most watch magnifiers and jewellers magnifying glass have the design that makes it possible to leave both hands free. Here, you can buy a jewellers loupe without a fixture or a model on a spectacle frame. A head magnifier will come handy for long work with small items.

Jewellers magnifying glass: Is there a difference from a watch one?

There is no difference between magnifiers for watchmakers or jewellers. This is a single family of magnifiers with high magnification and convenient fixtures leaving hands free. Most often it is a magnifier on a spectacle frame, but tabletop models are also popular. Note optical elements: the best jewellers magnifying tool, which you can buy right here, would always have a glass, and not a plastic eyepiece. It’s glass that supports transmission of clearest and highest contrast image with minimum distortions. Plastic is lighter and more convenient to handle, but the quality of the transmitted image will not always meet the expectations. Even though there might be exceptions.

What else do you need to know about watch and jewellers magnifying glasses? There are models with stack magnification. It’s when a scope of supply includes replaceable eyepieces with various magnification, and they may be installed on a frame in various combinations. Thus, a single magnifier may produce up to 5–7 fixed magnifications – sometimes less, sometimes more (depends on a model). There are magnifiers with or without lighting. Models with lighting make it possible to work in poorly lit premises, but they may be heavier as such compared to magnifiers without lighting. Additional weight mostly comes from a power supply unit with batteries. So choose carefully – do not always take after additional functions.
