History of LEVENHUK

The history of the company started in 1996 in the USA when Neil van Heeter, the founder of the company, started working as an engineer at the United Optical Instruments, specializing in lens production equipment and electronic optical systems.

Neil, being passionate about optics, assembled several optical instruments, including 2 microscopes and 4 telescopes, with his own hands from scratch. In 2002 he decided to turn his hobby into a business, and together with a successful businessman Grigory Velnitsky (who emigrated from the USSR in the 1980's) Neil opened a company.

The company got its name in honor of the Dutch scientist and naturalist Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, who invented the microscope and build it the way we know it. The name LEVENHUK was not chosen by accident. First of all, Neil Van Heeter's ancestors moved to the United States from Holland in the beginning of the 20th century, and Neil decided to make his countryman's name famous through his business. Secondly, and most importantly, we at LEVENHUK, just like the outstanding inventor of the 18th century, approach the design of our products with diligence and creativity, which makes sharing the fun of science so much easier.

Currently the company develops and manufactures the following categories of optical instruments: microscopes, telescopes, binoculars. LEVENHUK is quite known for its designer editions of telescope and microscopes. The company also manufactures prepared microscope samples, star charts, cleaning tools for optics, educational material on biology, astronomy and some other branches of natural science.

World presence

The headquarters as well as the R&D department are located in Freemont, California. The main production forces are in China. In 2007 the company opened offices in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg.
